Race of the Day - 17:40 Newcastle

The Trainer Jockey Combo Stats report shows that Tom Tate and Andrew Mullen have an excellent record together at Newcastle over the past year. They have managed six winners (40%) and nine places (60%) from their last 15 runners, for level stakes profits of 43.50 and 54.56 respectively and an Impact Value of 3.76.

They team up with Leodis in a two-mile stayers handicap at Newcastle this evening.

Leodis was beaten comfortably last time out over two furlongs further but was a good third over course and distance two runs ago in January where he was a little outpaced before staying on strongly at the finish.

He is a pound lower in the handicap now and receives a lot of weight from all of his rivals today.

Tom Tate has a great long-term record at this course. From his last 38 runners here, he's had nine winners (23.68%) and 16 places (42.11%), for level stakes profits of 56.17 and 85.07 respectively and an Impact Value of 2.20.

He also has a super record with his runners on the all-weather courses. From his last 30 runners on the artificial surfaces, he's nine winners (30%) and 13 places (43.33%), for level stakes profits of 64.17 and 73.17 respectively and an Impact Value of 2.86.

Andrew Mullen also appears to enjoy coming here to Newcastle. Over the past year, he's had 15 winners (11.63%) and 34 places (26.36%) from 129 runners, for level stakes profits of 19.00 and 6.12 respectively and an Impact Value of 1.09.

The Pace report shows that prominent runners have easily the best record here over this distance, with 23.53% of them going on to win the race, for a level stakes profit of 7.04 and an Impact Value of 1.74. The sample size is particularly big, however, so I wouldn't let it be a deciding factor.

Leodis has been quite prominent in his last couple of races and given his apparent stamina, I would think that Mullen may try and make this a bit of a test.
