Race of the Day – 28 July

Race of the Day - 15:10 Goodwood

The Qatar Goodwood Cup is a Group 2 run over two miles and it has attracted a nice looking field.

Kinema for Ralph Beckett is one of five horses that won last time out and one of two that are chasing a hat trick. Kinema is at the top of the Speed Ratings and as can be seen from the green characters below his name, Beckett is in fine current form and has good course form over the past year. If you click the black trainer icon below the horses name you will find further analysis of this information.

Sword Fighter is the other runner chasing a hat trick and he is trained by Aiden O'Brien, who is currently in excellent form. He is also the only three year old in the field, and whilst he will lack the experience of the others, he is seventeen pounds better off at the weights which could play a big part.

On the Instant Expert tab Quest For More shows up really well as being suited by today's conditions and importantly for a course like Goodwood, he has won here before. He has also won twice over this distance so may well be a big player in this race.

Big Orange has the best profile on this report and has a line of green on four out of the five categories, he is also only three pounds higher than his last victory.

Two of the horses already mentioned, Big Orange and Sword Fighter are confirmed front runners and apart from the outsider Glaring potentially wanting to do the same, I think these two could have it their own way out in front and be able to dictate the pace that suits them. An article here on Geegeez earlier on this week mentioned how it is quite tricky to fight your way through the field here at Goodwood, and even over this kind of distance I would prefer to be on something that is likely to be at the head of affairs.

This is a really open contest with plenty in with chances. I have a definite favourite that I am particularly keen on and am confident of a big run. Is there anything that stands out for you or is it a race to leave alone?

At double the price of the favourite, I’d probably be having an EW bet on Quest For More – distance fine, course fine & going fine – with 3 confirmed front runners, the race could be set up for a horse which sit prominently…
