Race of the Day – 28 Jun

Race of the Day - 20:00 Bath

There are just the seven runners for this six-furlong dash at Bath, but it's a wide open affair on very firm going.

Pixeleen is the current favourite at 15/8, and although she hasn't been in the winners' enclosure for quite some time now, she has been a model of consistency and has been running in much better races than this one. She was a decent third last time out in a Listed race at Salisbury, and now dropped back to handicap level, she looks a real player. Her trainer, Malcolm Saunders, has been in the winners recently, and jockey Adam Kirby (riding her for the first time today) has a superb record here at Bath. Over the past five years, he's had 23 winners (23%) and 49 places (49%) from 100 runners, for level stakes profits of 62.72 and 71.48 respectively.

There is quite a big range of scores when looking at the Speed Ratings, but Belledesert tops the list with a mark of 97.

Belledesert also comes out about the best when looking at the Instant Expert report. She has three sections of green and two of amber, showing how well suited she is by today's race. She is also just the three pounds higher than for her last victory, so looks to have a chance of getting involved at a course where she is 3/6 for 19.5 points.

Under The Covers also has three sections of green, but will need to prove that she can hack it in this class of race.

The Pace Report shows that early leaders have the best record, with over 16% of them going on to win the race. This has produced a level stakes loss however, and with just an amber pace blob, it doesn't show the bias that some courses have for early leaders.

Lydia's Place looks very likely to be the early leader as she has easily the highest pace score, and I think if she breaks away well enough then Dougie Costello will try and get her to the front and make all.

The Trainer Statistics report is available to all registered users on a Wednesday, and it is a very powerful tool for identifying where trainers are successful.

Malcolm Saunders has a very good record here at Bath over the last year, with 11 winners (30.56%) and 17 places (47.22%) from 36 runners, for level stakes profits of 23.96 and 29.14 respectively. As mentioned above, he runs Pixeleen here today and I think she will take a lot of stopping in this class of race.
