Race of the Day – 3 Apr

Race of the Day - 15:10 Kelso

This is a three mile and two furlongs handicap hurdle, on soft going at Kelso. It's a small field with just the six runners, but it is a very open looking contest.

Lochnell is the favourite at the current price of around 5/4, and she has been hugely consistent over her past six races. She's had two wins, three second places and a third on going ranging from good to heavy, therefore today's underfoot conditions will suit just fine.

Teddy Tee is trained by Nicky Richards and is being ridden by Ryan Day, both of whom have been in very good form over the past 30 days. You can see this by the green 30 below their respective names, and if you click on the trainer or jockey icons below the horses name, you will see this in a lot more detail.

Total Assets has two sections of green on the Instant Expert report, for Course and Distance, and she has won over course and distance twice previously. She is also three pounds lower than for her last victory, and on the same mark when she won here in December, therefore looks a solid option to beat the jolly.

Lochnell has just the two sections of amber, so doesn't look particularly suited by today's conditions. She is also a full eight pounds higher than for her last win, so she doesn't offer any kind of value in my opinion.

There is very little data to go on when looking at the pace statistics, and certainly not enough to draw any kind of meaningful conclusion from it.

Total Assets and Bescot Springs look the most likely to be taking them along in the early stages of the race, however neither of these two are real front runners, which means this could be quite a pedestrian pace for the first half of the race.
