Race of the Day – 30 Mar

Race of the Day - 20:15 Chelmsford

It's the evening meeting at Chelmsford for today's Race of the Day, and a seven furlong handicap for those rated 0-75.

Hammer Gun is on a brilliant run at the moment, having won his last four races, all of them this month (the first of them being as a 100/1 shot). He has taken a huge hike in the weights because of this, and is now rated 81, compared with 58 at the start of this run.

Space War is at the bottom of the weights, and he is trained by Mick Easterby, who has a very good record here at Chelmsford. From his last 57 runners he's had 17 winners (29.82%) and 30 places (52.63%) for level stakes profits of 17.22 and 15.71 respectively.

The Instant Expert report is free to all users for every race on a Thursday, and it shows that Hammer Gun is nicely suited by the racing conditions here today. He has four sections of green and one of red, although perhaps tellingly, this red section is for Class. This shows his sudden rise up the weights and he will probably need to improve again to take this today.

Order Of Service has four sections of amber which shows a certain level of consistency, and he is one pound lower than for his last victory, so if on song he has the potential to get involved.

Chelmsford is renowned for being a good course for early leaders, and over this distance is no different. Nearly 20% of runners that are at the front of the race early on have gone on to win, and have also produced a level stakes profit. Prominent runners are comfortably next best, showing that it is very difficult to come from behind and win here.

London and Let's Twist are both usually away very quickly, and based on their last four runs they are clear on the Pace scores.

Possibly. He’s sprinter so is more likely able to take his racing better than those going over longer trips.

      Time will tell.
