Race of the Day - 14:50 Ffos Las
This is quite a nice looking handicap hurdle at Ffos Las over two and a half miles, with the Venetia Williams trained Super Sam (who was highlighted on Race of the Day last week) looking for a quick-fire double after winning at Hereford.
The letters HC after the horses name indicate that they are making their handicap debut, which is the case for the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Southport. By clicking on these letters it shows us a report which details how well each trainer that has a horse making its handicap debut today, has done over a certain time period.
From the below we can see that Twiston-Davies has an excellent record with these runners, having 36 winners from 193 runners (18.65%) over the past five years for a level stakes profit of 49.65. This goes to show that he is very shrewd in where he places his handicap debutants.
There are a few sections of green on the Instant Expert report, but no horse has more than two against their name.
Hadfield is the only runners that has green sections for the going and the class, and is just two pounds higher than for his last victory, therefore he could potentially be a player at a nice price.
The Pace tab highlights the extremely poor return of front runners here over this distance, with less than 10% going on to take the victory. Prominent runners and those that race in mid division have the best record, with held up horses also doing badly.
There doesn't appear to be any real consistent front runner in this field based on previous runs, therefore this could have quite a muddling pace, although I have a feeling that Richard Johnson will be keen to get on with things aboard Miles To Milan.
Trainer Statistics is a report that is freely available for all users on a Wednesday, and it is great at highlighting trainers in form, or courses in which they excel at.
Nigel Twiston-Davies has a brilliant record at Ffos Las over the past five years. He's had 40 winners (22.60%) from 177 runners for a level stakes profit of 30.63. This record, together with his decent return from horses making their handicap debuts, makes Southport a very interesting runner here today.
