My Grey makes it onto the Shortlist at Plumpton today in a two and a half mile handicap hurdle. He has a useful score of ten, with three sections of green and one of amber, and it may well have been higher had he raced at Plumpton previously.
He appears attractively priced at 8/1 in an eight-runner race, therefore, we will take a closer look at this credentials.
From looking at the current form on the racecard, we can see that Mr Grey is lightly raced and in fact hasn't been seen on the racecourse for almost a year. His hurdles mark is nine pounds lower than when he last raced over them and that was a fourth-place finish in a decent looking race at Sandown.
If he comes to the course today fully fit, then he definitely seems weighted to go close with a good run.
Ben Case doesn't send his horses to Plumpton too often, but he has a good strike rate when he goes. Over the past five years, his ten runners have produced three winners (30%) and five places (50%) for level stakes profits of 10.00 and 12.20, and an Impact Value of 2.32.
He has also shown that he is able to produce winners after a reasonable time off the course, which is encouraging.
Daryl Jacob is full of confidence at the moment and is riding extremely well. Over the past two weeks, he's had six winners (28.57%) and 12 places (57.14%) from 21 runners, for level stakes profits of 19.76 and 20.93 respectively. This has also produced an Impact Value of 3.09.
The Instant Expert report confirms how well suited to today's conditions, and there is only one other runner in the race that looks similarly well suited. That is the current favourite Fixed Rate, although he is a full ten pounds higher than for his last victory.
From the Pace report, we can see that early leaders here over this distance have a super record, with 24.44% of them going on to win the race. This has produced a level stakes profit of 5.18 and an Impact Value of 1.89.
There are three runners in this field of eight that are usually keen to get on with things (Mr Grey being one of them), therefore, it is extremely tough to figure out who will be leading. It may well be that the three of them are all keen to get on with it and this would ensure the pace is quick.
