The Trainer Snippets report shows that Stuart Edmunds has a great record with his runners that are last time out winners. From his last 30 such runners, he's had 11 winners (36.67%) and 15 places (50%), for level stakes profits of 16.12 and 20.11 respectively and an Impact Value 1.95.
He runs Clondaw Native in a three-mile handicap hurdle today, and he was the winner of a good looking maiden hurdle at Ascot six days ago. He steps into handicap company for the first time today and is currently priced around 10/3.
Clondaw Native har run reasonably well in a couple of novice hurdles before winning last week at Ascot, and the way he stayed on strongly that day suggest the extra two furlongs here today may bring out further improvement in him. He has been given an opening mark of 130, which if he improves again could potentially be on the lenient side.
As well as having the excellent record with last time out winners, Edmunds does well in hurdle races in general. From his last 118 runners in hurdle races, he's had 24 winners (20.34%) and 52 places (44.07%), for an Impact Value of 2.01.
Clondaw Native looks reasonably well suited to today's conditions when looking at the Instant Expert on the 'Place' setting. He has three sections of green and two of grey and there are a few other runners in this field that have a similar profile.
This has the look of quite a competitive race, with some up and coming horses against seasoned handicappers.
There is very little data to go on with the Pace report but from the small sample we have, it shows that prominent runners here over this distance.
Clondaw Native has been ridden prominently in his races so far and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Tom O'Brien do the same again here today and try and control the pace as this is a distance he is trying for the first time.
