Return to Goodwood for Finjaan

Goodwood again beckons Finjaan as trainer Marcus Tregoning will keep his alternatives open with regard to the options of the £100,000 Group Two Celebration Mile on Saturday, August 28 or the furlong less £57,000 Group Three Supreme Stakes on Sunday, August 29.

May, 2009 saw the four-year-old start in the Group One 2,000 Guineas, the only run he has had over a mile, finishing in ninth place to Sea The Stars. Subsequently, the classy colt has been shown to give a good performance over seven furlongs.

The most impressive victory Finjaan has achieved so far came in a seven furlong event at Goodwood in July 2009, defeating Balthazaar's Gift to win the Group Two Betfair Cup.

Tregoning disclosed, "There are two races at Goodwood that weekend for Finjaan and he will go for one or the other. He will line up there but I haven't decided whether it will be in the Celebration Mile or the Supreme Stakes.

"He is absolutely fine, we just haven't been very lucky with him this year. He doesn't want soft ground, that's the thing, and it was on the soft side at Newbury last time.

"He has a very good record at Goodwood and his last run there in this year's Betfair Cup was disappointing because nothing went right for him. Hopefully, things will go better this time.

"At this stage I'm keeping it quite open as to which race he will run in. I don't think I would worry about a mile for him but, as we've seen, he is very effective at seven furlongs."
