SOTD Weekly Updates

SotD Update, 26th March to 7th April 2018

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you'll know I went away on Good Friday for some family time and a much needed recharge of the batteries : the number crunching hurts the brain after a while!

So, that's why this is a fortnightly roundup rather than weekly one. As is the case in my absence, Steve, our Race of the Day man, steps into my shoes to ensure there's no break in service and like me he's prone to the vagaries of form!

Much (probably too much!) has been said of late about a 9-day losing run and I've answered some comments directly, but I want to put this to bed right now. The 9 losers were bookended by two winners at 8/1 and 5/2, so punters with us over this time still made 1.5pts profit at an ROI of 13.6% which is a better return than most tipsters out there.

I've also been at pains to warn you all of an overdue correction in figures. With a strike rate of 27% long-term (almost 2000) selections, the fact that 2018 was running at 32.8% should tell you a dip in form was imminent : tie this in with some awful racing conditions and there you have it.

We won't win every day/week/month, it's not possible, but since inception in 2011 : we do win every year! Stick with it, take the bad medicine at times, but if a 9/14/20 day losing run is too much to bear, SotD is not for you, nor is any other "tipping service".

Great update Chris, disappointing if people are questioning SotD given long term performance. One thing I’ve learned in my short time with Geegeez is its about the overall returns not what happens in a day, week or even month. Keep up the good work. Lee

  2. kanga says:

I’ve done the maths and a losing run of 18 is to be expected at any given time, 9 is nothing – keep up the great work.

  3. colsinit2win says:

Well said Chris! Sure, it’s been a frustrating run but yes, on the back of an 8/1 winner, long term, I know I will be in front. I’ve had worse runs of my own as I’m sure many others have! Hopefully, the weather should turn now and we can get back to some sort of normality but at the end of the day, SotD is just one strategy in my betting profile, albeit at the moment, the most successful, so I’m not complaining. If you can’t make it pay with the vast amount of information available from Geegeez then yes, you should not be betting! Welcome back and to all at Geegeez, keep up the GREAT work!

  4. jashmeade says:

The people moaning can’t be in it for the long run and probably have little to no understanding about gambling and probably the type of people that pump thousands into the slots and blame other people for there actions! You run a great service imo keep up the good work.

  5. gabbialice says:

It’s my fault. I’m sorry. Every time I increase my stake, this happens. I’m still in front though, so, you know…

  6. Chris Jones says:

I’ve been following SOTD since August 2014, mostly at £25 bets and I’m over £5k up – anyone that complains about this service needs their head testing.

  7. Pilgrim17 says:

I am very cynical about certain claims etc, and I have to confess that I do not believe any of it as you can make anything appear good or bad using statistics. However your service is exceptionally straight and once again statistically you are bang on as far as I am concerned. If you look behind the figures some of the horses were desperately unlucky and of course I realise this goes both ways. As the great Winston Churchill said, ” If it looks as though you are going through hell, keep on going!”
Good luck and keep the good work up.
    Michael

  8. knobbo says:

Please say ‘regression to mean’ rather than imminent dip in form. Helps my mindset 🙂

    • Chris Worrall says:

Regression to mean / an overdue correction and many other phrases I’ve used in the past have all been ignored by a small percentage of readers, so I thought I’d just be dead straight!

  9. RebelDevil71 says:

Anyone that complains about ANY service needs their head testing. You’d swear a gun was put to their heads… Nobody that has a clue complains, this service is a winner, it’s a long-term game. Meanwhile, I am part of a public weekly napping table and am just as spectacularly 0 for 12! Head won, plough on.

  10. Bazcoe says:

I have been using SOTD for the last few years increasing/decreasing my stake as my bank grew or diminished ( after taking some profit ) and have won in excess of 12k. Losing runs are frustrating and can play havoc with your emotions, but they are inevitable.

  11. Mrlucky says:

Hi Chris, I backed two race of the day horses recently that won at 11/1 and 12/1 but had them doubled with
SotD e/w and got nought!.I need someone to blame! Some people don’t realize how good a job you do.
    Its slings and arrows. Brian

    • Chris Worrall says:

      Cheers, Brian.
Those slinging mud Steve’s way after a difficult week doing my job would do well to note his pair of double-digit winners on his own feature, which is free to all 5 days a week.

  12. Joseph Shannon says:

The only people who moan about stod are them that are too lazy too put the work in . In one of my betting accounts i only put too bets a day in one is stod and the other comes from elite racing club and let me tell you they pay for me and my wife too go on holiday all inclusive keep the good work up Matt and the boys

  13. Bob Smith says:

Hi Chris – Think it was unfortunate that a number of Steve’s selections ran extremely badly, nowhere near the S.P. given to them. However, you are so right in your comments about it being a marathon and not a sprint. I along with many other long term “blind” followers of SotD have benefited greatly financially over the years. You, Matt and the whole Geegeez Team do a wonderful job ! – Many Thanks Bob Smith

  14. Rotund legend says:

I would not mention as imminent dip in form, as unless you have a top of the range crystal ball, you cannot determine what will happen in the future. Regression to the mean is something different from a dip in form but I wont bore you with all that. The simplest way to approach the performance of services such as Stat Of The Day is to keep it simple and say long term profit is its aim and give the year on year performance figures and leave it at that. I have heard Matt describe it as such.
I know from experience of such services is that where they work on a level stakes basis users get confused when you put up horses at different odds. They do not know how much to put on if it is 2/1 or 10/1. They are looking for guidance in terms of how many points to have on. Just an observation from experience of punters feedback on similar services.
Stat of the Day makes a profit and so you should be proud of that. Unfortunately a significant number of punters think short term.

  15. N17 says:

I’m in for the long term and appreciate all your hard work. Stat of the Day certainly well in profit during the time I have been following it.

    Thanks

    Nigel.

  16. davewood53 says:

You shouldn’t need to (or feel the need to) comment on criticism. Backing a horse is personal choice and judgement, even with a recommendation. But you know this.

SOTD figures speak for themselves. I’ve never followed tipsters because there is a trust element and when I’ve studied ‘tipster’ results (or more importantly, compared reported results with actual results) have never felt able you can trust their data; so I don’t.

But I have learned to follow STOD. Its honest and works and I can yet again only say thanks.

  17. therams1962 says:

keep up the good work and if the doubters want to doubt then let them .I recently proofed my tips to betting gods ended the 3 to 4 month period with a 28% strike rate and nearly same ROI .I had 1 losing month and 1 break even with 2 bumper months in between alas they decided I was not for them .The point is they knew the majority of punters would soon pack it in after a losing period .Play the long game but always strife to improve .Great service profided on here the best in fact .Thankyou all very much .
