SOTD Weekly Updates

SotD Update, 5th to 10th December 2016

Just the one winner last week, but having kicked off the week with a non-runner (Guanciale) and Thursday's victor (Winning Spark) returning at 5/1, it meant that we still made a 1pt profit on the week.

More crucially, it takes to the point where we probably now only need a couple more winners to round 2016 off with another profitable month, as we're already on +8pts at the start of the fresh week. It also takes the yearly profit beyond 35pts after what proved to be a bit of a struggle in the early months, having lost 27.2pts in the first four months, so to have made over 60pts since 1st May is particularly pleasing.

I have a beef with the ludicrous timing of the Stat Of The Day feature. Take tonight as a good example. A horse tipped up at 5/1 at 5.15pm the day before racing. At a time where the bookies will simply not lay a decent bet. So, for pennies, the price within an hour or so is now best 7/2.

How many are regularly getting on at the recommended price for this feature? How many still are permitted BOG by bookies? Maybe it’s just me, but if I still had bookie accounts that took a decent bet at best price in the market (and BOG into the bargain) at 5 o’clock the night before racing, these accounts wouldn’t last 5 minutes.

Is there any user on here who can honestly say they regularly get their SOD bets on with BOG at the recommended price?

    • Chris Worrall says:

      They’re the prices I get.
I’d have backed it at 7/2 too, if that’s all I could get.

It really doesn’t matter what time I put the selection up or what price they are, there’ll always be someone unhappy about it.

      Hi galexmac

The vast majority of geegeez subscribers get on at the advertised price, or very close to it. We don’t have to defend timing: it’s a simple case of it works for you, or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t, with utmost respect, that’s your problem not ours.

In the world we live in, there is terrific value at every turn – food, holidays, Christmas booze, bookmaker prices. For a variety of reasons, not all of us can get all the best deals. That’s life. So if you can’t get on SotD horses and you don’t see value in the rest of the service (including a range of profitable tipster threads on the forum), then fair enough and no problem at all. Just cancel your sub, no harm no foul.

But as Stuart has pointed out, most can/do get on; and find SotD to be a perfect accompaniment to their own endeavours elsewhere in the premium content. Whether you have time or inclination to engage with that only you know. But, again, none of this is the fault of the service, per se.

I appreciate that may not be the answer you’re looking for, but I hope you at least consider it to be fair. If you want to discuss further, please do drop me a line personally at and I’ll do all I can to answer your questions.

      Best Regards,

I usually get on somewhere at roughly the price Chris recommends. Admittedly it occasionally means Betfair’s price rather than a BOGs bookie, but that’s my problem and it seems more than a tad harsh to me to blame Chris for that.

That said, I should add two things:
    1. I’m only allowed to put bets on at about half of the BOGs bookies. However, I don’t think SotD can be blamed for me being shut down by the others, even if it may be partly to blame. And even if it were to blame, is that the service’s fault? Getting shut down is usually a sign one is winning in some way – and there’s really only one alternative to that (which is one offered by plenty of other services out there).
    2. SotD is bascally a free service. You get a million other things on this site for whatever subscription you’re on – surely SotD is a bonus on top of that? That’s how I see it, anyway. Neither Chris nor anyone else is forcing you to back the horses SotD suggests.
