Stat Of The Day

Stat of the Day, 15th February 2016

Saturday's Result :

3.50 Warwick: Taquin De Seuil @ 7/2 BOG WON at 5/1 (Held up, headway 13th, led before 2 out, clear approaching last, stayed on well)

Monday's runner goes in the...

3.10 Catterick :

Before I post the daily selection, just a quick reminder of how I operate the service. Generally, I'll identify and share the selection in the evening before the following day's race and I then add a detailed write-up later on that night/next morning.

Those happy to take the early price on trust can do so, whilst some might prefer to wait for my reasoning. As I fit the early service in around my family life, I can't give an exact timing on the posts, so I suggest you follow us on Twitter and/or Facebook for instant notifications of a published pick.

Who?

Askamore Darsi @ 5/2 BOG

Why?

It's fair to say that I already have an affection for this lad and, luckily, the data supports his nomination today. Askamore Darsi is not the most talented horse in the world, but he has two tremendous attributes: electric jumping for a novice, and the heart of a lion (almost impossible to believe he was once given the dreaded Timeform squiggle - poor show).

There's nothing statistical about that first paragraph so allow me to add some head ballast to my heart rhetoric.

We can start with the trainer/jockey combination: Donald McCain and Henry Brooke have a great long term record at Catterick. In the last five years, they've teamed up on 17 horses, notching seven winners (41%) for 9.23 units profit.

Then there's the horse's overall record of five wins from 15 starts (33%, again very hard to see how he got squiggled). And his excellent recent form of 1211, with the only horse to beat him - Alto Des Mottes - running second of twelve in the Yorkshire National off a mark of 125. And there is also AD's front-running preference, in a race where recent history suggests he'll endure little pressure for the lead.

Up just seven pounds for two narrow wins, I hope he can complete the hat-trick for Stat of the Day followers to close out my short stint with another win. He's 5/2 BOG with bet365 to do that.

Couldn’t get to the front and was pretty disinterested throughout. Race might have come too soon, as well. We’ll try again tomorrow…
