Geegeez Placepot

Geegeez Placepot

Another placepot landed, another disappointing dividend yesterday at Stratford. Let's have a pop at the big fields in the second half of this afternoon's Catterick placepot and see if that brings a bigger payoff, and if we can actually claim a slice of it...

2.30 - Leg 1: With the form of those to have run not seeming to amount to much, I'm going to side with two newcomers from yards that always have them ready first time: Richard Fahey's Birkacre, and Ed McMahon's Flair For Fashion.

Noble Reach might be the best of those to have run, but I'm going narrow early today, so just the unraced pair.

A - 1 (Birkacre), 3 (Flair For Fashion)

3.00 - Leg  2: Oriental Relation. Banker.

A - 1 (Oriental Relation)

3.30 - Leg 3: Miss Macnamara will probably win if repeating her course and distance win last time. Tartan Jura probably wants it softer, and Amir Pasha wins over shorter on the flat, so Jan Smuts is the most likely place rival.

A - 5 (Jan Smuts), 6 (Miss Macnamara)

4.00 - Leg 4: A big field seven furlong contest, and the pace looks to be evenly split. West Leake Hare and Our Boy Jack look solid at the top of the market, with slight preference for the former, a hold up tupe usually that should see them come back to him.

Chookie Avon, Oil Strike and Kuwait Star all have some sort of chance, and the money for Solar Spirit - from smart enough connections - is hard to ignore.

A - 2 (Our Boy Jack), 13 (West Leake Hare)
B - 3 (Solar Spirit), 9 (Chookie Avon), 11 (Kuwait Star), 14 (Oil Strike)

4.30 - Leg 5: A non-winners of two race and most of these are fairly exposed meaning it's a poor race. The favourite, Duke Of Destiny, has been second plenty, which merits inclusion here. But really we're going to have to try to get him beaten out of the frame. I think My New Angel's chance has been under-estimated. She's been second the last twice she's run over seven furlongs, including when a 33/1 shot last time, and she might go close again at a placepot-busting price.

Legal Bond is top-rated but has been stuffed in sellers the last twice and, while this is of seller quality, he's been stuffed both tries at seven furlongs too. Not for me. Mrs Warren on the other hand has been close up in her last two races - better races than this - and looks a player. She might win. And Gladsome will also enjoy this trip.

It's a shocking race, and if Duke is out of the frame, anything could happen. Hopefully we'll catch one of our trio of alternatives.

A - 2 (Duke Of Destiny), 14 (Mrs Warren)
B - 4 (Gladsome), 11 (My New Angel)

5.00 - Leg 6: A competitive mile and a half handicap, where it will likely pay to be close to the pace. My three against the field are Slide Show, Light The City, and Ailsa Craig, all three having a number of things in their favour, not least that they tend to race prominently.

A - 3 (Ailsa Craig), 8 (Light The City), 11 (Slide Show)

Just A's - 2 x 1 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 48 bets

All picks - 2 x 1 x 2 x 6 x 4 x 3 = 288 bets

It's off to Catterick for the placepot today, and with a four runner and a seven runner race, things might get interesting. Let's hope so. It kicks off at 14.05...

A novice hurdle which is ostensibly a four horse race, despite ten going to post. Nice and simple, we'll side with Abbey Storm, who should stay this far, and looks a nice prospect.

A - 2

Trappy. Just how I like it. Trend Is My Friend gets to handicaps pretty quickly, and makes A. Amok won on good to soft and also makes A. Alba King doesn't have any evidence of enjoying soft ground and is overlooked. A couple of rags on B, starting with Zazamix, for whom conditions are optimal if he can put a bad run and a tumble over fences behind him on this reversion to hurdles. Molaise Lad ought to be staying on at the end here and might pass enough to make the frame for B tickets.

A - 2, 4
B - 5, 6

Four novice chasers in a handicap a reliable punting proposition does not make. It is sensible to cover all four, but in the interests of expediency I will cover only three and may save on the other one if something good happens in the 2.40 race.

I'm going to take a big chance and swerve Dannancey's Hill, who looks a very one paced fellow. This does seems a bit easier than his most recent race, but still he seems to find one too good at the end. When you're win only, that's no good.

A - 1, 2
B - 4

Competitive stuff, and plenty with some sort of chance. Optimally suited are Fairy Nuff and Amir Pasha and they will represent the primary hopes. Supporting them on B is the trio of Mount Hope, Knight Valliant, and Silas Mariner.

Both Glencree and Charlie Crab could outrun their odds but are not sensible placepot plays.

A - 4, 13
B - 2, 3, 9

A cracking race. Lease Lend looks to have everything in his favour and is super-consistent. I'm going to bank on him here. If the placepot is shaping up nicely enough, I may look to lay him for a place on Betfair to cover my stakes.

A - 1

An unbeaten favourite and a very well supported unraced second favourite... that's A sorted with Legacy Gold and Delta Forty respectively. In a race where a lot is taken on trust, it's worth adding some ballast on B in the hope of a surprise result. As such, Dancing Lamb and Falcon's Present join the placepot party.

A - 1, 2
B - 3, 8

Basic Version, A’s only

1 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 1 x 2 = 16 bets

Basic Version, A’s and B’s

1 x 4 x 3 x 5 x 1 x 4 = 240 bets

Advanced Version, using ticket builder

This is using 20p base stakes (x4 for all As, and x2 for 5A1B combo's), but could be done for as little as 5p stakes in the betting shops.
