In a win for the first time ever by a British trained horse, Buzzword out performed the top home grown chance Zazou for a length and a quarter victory in the Idee Deutsches Derby in Hamburg on Sunday.
Buzzword completed a notable Group 1 double for Godolphin over this weekend, running on from the triumph by Campanologist in the Deutschland-Preis on Saturday.
Monterosso, the colt trained by Mark Johnston, was the big let down of the race, as the 9-4 favourite had Buzzword relegated to third place in last month's victory at the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Jockey Royston Ffrench now has Buzzword's victory to thank for his third top-level triumph, but trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni the win noted a substantial breakthrough.
With Frozen Power's winning start in the 2,000 Guineas, a Group 2 event in May at Cologne, the first season for the trainer can tout a 100 per cent achievement in the German Classics
Diana Cooper, a representative of Godolphin said, "We were quite confident beforehand as Buzzword is a really high-class horse. He had been freshened up by a break since Royal Ascot and Royston gave him a peach of a ride."
Ffrench added, "My main concern was to get a decent position in such a big field. Once I had managed that the horse did the rest."
