The Shortlist 20th September 2013

shortlistA frustrating day of crossbar-rattling for The Shortlist on its first day, with five of the seven main list picks finishing second or third, and one of the others - the one I'd had my decent bet on, of course - getting run out of it and coming home fourth.

Of real interest in the long-term, though, is the fact that all seven horses returned shorter prices than the early Best Odds Guaranteed odds, and I make no excuse for again saying that if you don't have accounts with the BOG bookies, you're leaking money.

(In fact, only one of the seven 'also of interest' horses returned bigger than the early BOG prices, and that was the 9/2 winner, Rocksilla).

The Shortlist is a simple concept: I go through the Race Analysis Reports each day to find horses which I consider to be of interest. I then publish that list of horses here. Some will win, many will lose. It is hoped that the winners will cover the losers and leave a bit of gravy on the punting platter.

Now, before I go on, I need to make (labour!) a really important point. And it is this:

the Race Analysis Reports are deliberately interpretive. That is, different people will highlight different horses depending on whether they're using the win or place statistics, and which columns they sort on (based on which elements they consider most important in a given race).

So, these will be the horses on MY shortlist. Feel free to do with them what you will.

You may have a different shortlist, and you are most certainly encouraged to go and play with the numbers to find what works best for you.

As regular readers will know, it makes absolute sense to get the best price you can about any selection you're backing. Put another way, it makes no sense whatsoever to accept a shorter price than the best available unless you've got too much money and are keen to give some away! 😉

So, if you don't already have accounts with all the main bookmakers, you should get them. Seriously. Not only will they give you free bets when you start, but you'll also - more importantly - always get the best value on any bet you make by ensuring you take the top price. It's just daft not to.

Here at geegeez, we've got a special software tool which takes the hard (and dull) work of opening accounts, and makes it easy. You fill out a single form, and our software does the rest, opening up to twelve accounts for you with all the major bookmakers.

Just click here to put it to work for you.

    I really like the RAR.
I am going for EW Lucky 15 on the big priced ones.
Not too confident of One Kool Dude and I have gone for Pivotal Prospect.

    Good Luck

  2. Needers says:

Agreed, loving the RAR, as stated on your other thread. I picked 6 of your 8 above also, before looking at your selections, so hoping great minds think alike! Already started well with Artful Prince. I personally picked Kielty’s Folly at 33/1 yesterday using the RAR, so I like the ‘each to their own selections’ feel of it. Top work.

  3. John C says:

Matt, I tried the RAR today first time, focussing particularly on the going. Took Artful Prince and Tawhid as strong fancies and Sula Two and Pasaka Boy as each way shouts, WOW! Now regretting not combining them in a Yankee but still got a very good return for small stakes. Excellent stuff, please keep it up! Be lucky!

  4. Paul says:

Pasaka Boy a winner at 17/2, tipped up at 25/1! Ridiculous! At this rate I’ll be putting you on my Christmas Card list. Nice one Matt.

  5. Jim Cannon says:

Good set of results going into Wolves. Just watched Khajaaly nearly hang on for another win at Wolves. Tote paid 1.10 for a place!!!! disgusting.

  6. Needers says:

Get the hell in there. Another cracker from the RAR, this time Monzino at 25/1! And he blew the start, great ride to take it on the line. I know it’s early days but loving this Matt.

  7. john says:

  8. Paul D says:

Great work Matt, just settled down in time to grab the 25/1 winner in the last! Absolutely fantastic tipping for today.

  9. martin says:

Amazing performance today….if I was a bookmaker I’d be quite concerned.

All the positive sentiment is proving to be very well placed…..can’t wait for the cards to be posted for tomorrow.

Great stuff Matt (not forgetting Chris with another SotD winner too). Five winners from the Shortlist horses, all at good prices, one at an outrageous price !!!!

“Computerless” over the weekend so will need to wait until Monday – good luck tomorrow with the selections.
