The Shortlist 21st September 2013

shortlist

Wow! I'm almost tempted to say 'BOOM'. Almost. Yesterday was one of those Midas days and, let's be honest, it's unlikely to happen again today, tomorrow or indeed any time soon. The main shortlist of eight horses highlighted four winners at prices of 4/1, 2/1, 15/8, and... 25/1! It also highlighted a second place at 20/1.

The 'also of interest' list flagged another 25/1 winner from just four selections!

Like I say, that's unsustainable. But what's really exciting for me so far is the consistency of these picks. Even when they've not been winning, most of them are running their races and finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th. And so they should - after all, they've been selected due to the prevailing conditions suiting them very well. 🙂

The Shortlist is a simple concept: I go through the Race Analysis Reports each day to find horses which I consider to be of interest. I then publish that list of horses here. Some will win, many will lose. It is hoped that the winners will cover the losers and leave a bit of gravy on the punting platter.

Now, before I go on, I need to make (labour!) a really important point. And it is this:

the Race Analysis Reports are deliberately interpretive. That is, different people will highlight different horses depending on whether they're using the win or place statistics, and which columns they sort on (based on which elements they consider most important in a given race).

So, these will be the horses on MY shortlist. Feel free to do with them what you will.

You may have a different shortlist, and you are most certainly encouraged to go and play with the numbers to find what works best for you.

Today's racecards are here.

OK, with that said, here is today's Shortlist, along with the best odds (all best odds guaranteed prices) at the time of writing.

As regular readers will know, it makes absolute sense to get the best price you can about any selection you're backing. Put another way, it makes no sense whatsoever to accept a shorter price than the best available unless you've got too much money and are keen to give some away! 😉

So, if you don't already have accounts with all the main bookmakers, you should get them. Seriously. Not only will they give you free bets when you start, but you'll also - more importantly - always get the best value on any bet you make by ensuring you take the top price. It's just daft not to.

Here at geegeez, we've got a special software tool which takes the hard (and dull) work of opening accounts, and makes it easy. You fill out a single form, and our software does the rest, opening up to twelve accounts for you with all the major bookmakers.

Just click here to put it to work for you.

    Hi matt,
I didn’t know about the short list until this morning, but I’ve been checking out the RARs since the start and picked out Monzino–I like big priced horses–and got a great return in an EW Lucky 15. Thanks mate. Keep up the great work.

    William

      Hi William

Well done! That’s definitely my preferred route, is for people to make their own choices. And, as you can see, it’s sometimes quite obvious which horse is best suited… even when it’s a 25/1 shot!

      Matt

I don’t know how you manage to get so much top quality info onto the website each day – it is brilliant!
I have just made my own shortlist from the RAR and it is quite different to yours, but this is what keeps it so interesting, isn’t it?
    Thanks again,

    Paul Whitworth

    • Matt Bisogno says:

Good work Paul, and yes, exactly! That’s the idea – we all approach the game differently, so it makes sense we should reach different conclusions sometimes. Hopefully we’ll both have a couple of winners today. 🙂

      Best,
      Matt

  12. Carla Graça (@carlaraqgr) says:

Hello! While I was tinkering with the RAR, I think I found something strange; In the 17.10 in Newbury Whipper Snapper,in the actual class and distance, and correct me please if I’m wrong, is only registered that he had 1 place from 5 runs, where he actually placed 2 times. He placed on a class 4 at Yarmouth on 30/7/13 and Newmarket on 19/07/13.He also placed at 7f on Yarmouth on the same date and won at Lingfield on 7/06/13 at the same distance.I hope I’m not making any confusion though.

    • Matt Bisogno says:

Thanks Carla. You’re right. Not sure what’s happened there. I need to look into it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

      Matt

    • Matt Bisogno says:

It’s in the pipeline, Dave. Will take a bit of work though, to get everything in the database and coded to appear on the website itself. About two months, I’d say. Early Christmas present 😉

      Matt
