The Shortlist, 25th April 2014

shortlist

As it has been for most of this week, it was a strong start and a limp finish yesterday, as both Such A Legend and Seebright won early in the day. Fortunately, they were worth a profit of six points to put us well in front on the week.

Friday looks like this from The Shortlist's perspective.

Today's racecards are here.

2.30 Per - Wilde Pastures - 11/2 BetVictor
4.00 Don - Next Door - 5/2 SkyBet
4.10 Per - Royale Knight - 11/2 bet365
6.35 Chep - Top Wood - 9/1 Seanie Mac
7.55 Newt - Bermuda Boy e/w - 10/1 PP

The Shortlist is a simple concept: I go through the Race Analysis Reports each day to find horses which I consider to be of interest. I then publish that list of horses here. Some will win, many will lose. It is hoped that the winners will cover the losers and leave a bit of gravy on the punting platter. Now, before I go on, I need to make (labour!) a really important point. And it is this: the Race Analysis Reports are deliberately interpretive.

That is, different people will highlight different horses depending on whether they're using the win or place statistics, and which columns they sort on (based on which elements they consider most important in a given race). So, these will be the horses on MY shortlist. Feel free to do with them what you will. You may have a different shortlist, and you are most certainly encouraged to go and play with the numbers to find what works best for you.

As regular readers will know, it makes absolute sense to get the best price you can about any selection you're backing. Put another way, it makes no sense whatsoever to accept a shorter price than the best available unless you've got too much money and are keen to give some away! 😉

So, if you don't already have accounts with all the main bookmakers, you should get them. Seriously. Not only will they give you free bets when you start, but you'll also  more importantly - always get the best value on any bet you make by ensuring you take the top price. It's just daft not to.

Here at geegeez, we've got a special software tool which takes the hard (and dull) work of opening accounts, and makes it easy. You fill out a single form, and our software does the rest, opening up to twelve accounts for you with all the major bookmakers.

Just click here to put it to work for you.

    Hi Matt,

just a quick question, i wonder if, with this selections, we use 0.25 points win and 0.75 points place would be a better return. the same with stat of the day. i can’t find your selections from the past year so i can check it out how it fares.
i would be very interested on your opinion and how the results stand by placing the bets this way.
    thanks

      Hi Albert

I’m afraid I have no idea. Readers are, of course, free to use the information in any way which they think works for them… or indeed to completely ignore it!

Our recommendation with Stat of the Day is one point win per selection (or occasionally half a point each way), and Double Dutch is to take 2 x 2 0.5 pt doubles.

The Shortlist is not presented as a tipping service in the same way as the other two. Rather, it is merely a place where we showcase some of the horses that look to have fair profiles in the context of today’s race conditions.

I hope that helps a little,
      Matt
