The Shortlist 26th September 2013

Back in the groove yesterday, with both main fancies winning, at advised prices of 13/2 and 7/4. They returned 6/1 and 10/11, which is still a 12.43/1 double for those who play such things.

It's my son Leonardo's first birthday today, so I'll be at London Zoo on a rare family outing. 🙂

A few of interest to me today, including a 40/1 shot that might be outclassed, but has a profile to over-perform if things go his way.

The Shortlist is a simple concept: I go through the Race Analysis Reports each day to find horses which I consider to be of interest. I then publish that list of horses here. Some will win, many will lose. It is hoped that the winners will cover the losers and leave a bit of gravy on the punting platter.

Now, before I go on, I need to make (labour!) a really important point. And it is this:

the Race Analysis Reports are deliberately interpretive. That is, different people will highlight different horses depending on whether they're using the win or place statistics, and which columns they sort on (based on which elements they consider most important in a given race).

So, these will be the horses on MY shortlist. Feel free to do with them what you will.

You may have a different shortlist, and you are most certainly encouraged to go and play with the numbers to find what works best for you.

Today's racecards are here.

OK, with that said, here is today's Shortlist, along with the best odds (all best odds guaranteed prices) at the time of writing.

3.30 Pont - Ypres - 11/1 BetVictor - 2nd 4/1 (short head!!)
4.15 Newm - Body Language e/w - 50/1 PP - 3rd 16/1
6.45 Wolv - Limegrove - 8/1 Boylesports - 5th 14/1

My 'also considered' list comprises:

2.35 Newm - Photography - 13/2 SJ - 6th 13/2
3.10 Newm - Tempest Fugit e/w - 14/1 BetVictor - NR
5.05 Perth - Outrageous Request e/w - 17/2 BetVictor - NR
5.50 Pont - Pertuis - 12/1 bet365 - 2nd 17/2
7.15 Wolv - Diffident Beats e/w - NR
9.15 Wolv - Overrule - 14/1 bet365 - 4th 16/1

As regular readers will know, it makes absolute sense to get the best price you can about any selection you're backing. Put another way, it makes no sense whatsoever to accept a shorter price than the best available unless you've got too much money and are keen to give some away! 😉

So, if you don't already have accounts with all the main bookmakers, you should get them. Seriously. Not only will they give you free bets when you start, but you'll also - more importantly - always get the best value on any bet you make by ensuring you take the top price. It's just daft not to.

Here at geegeez, we've got a special software tool which takes the hard (and dull) work of opening accounts, and makes it easy. You fill out a single form, and our software does the rest, opening up to twelve accounts for you with all the major bookmakers.

Just click here to put it to work for you.

Happy Birthday Leonardo, I hope you all enjoy your day at the zoo. Its is also my Daughters 41st Bday today. Here’s to a good day all round 😉

  2. Alan Slinn says:

Hi Matt came up with the same short list as you yesterday so had a good day .Looks a bit harder today

  3. pluvius says:

Interesting selection with Body Language, massive price but will surely have to step up on what he’s done so far even to make the frame. Personally like Repeater in that particular race but best fancy is On The Buckle (2.45 Perth) on hurdling debut.

    • Matt Bisogno says:

Agree Ken. Always looking for value, not necessarily winners. The fact that he’s 16/1 now and was nominated at 50/1 justifies the pick irrespective of finishing position, in my view.

  4. Stuart says:

There’s the value of getting on early. I got 50/1 at PP on Body Language, but I see he went off at 16/1. Wow, that’s quite a difference, even on the place part of the deal. Thanks Matt!

Hope Leonardo had a good day, taking you round the zoo! 😉

    • Matt Bisogno says:

Indeed, Stuart. He was finishing best of all too!

Both Leon and I had fun at the zoo, and we’re both knackered now!! Thanks for asking.

  5. Mark Johnson says:

Pertuis – by far the best horse, given a dreadful ride by his jockey. Got trapped inside where early leaders were clearly weakening. Stormed home to come second but would have won easily had he moved to the outside when he had the chance….aaarrrggghhh!

    • Matt Bisogno says:

Them’s the breaks, Mark. On the run we’re currently enjoying, we can’t complain too much!

  6. Starburst says:

Matt when do you put up the race cards. For example when would you put up the cards for Friday the 27th. By the way hope you and your son had a great day.

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      Hi Starburst,

They go up shortly after midnight currently. We’re working on getting ‘tomorrow’ up earlier and should hopefully have that within the next six weeks. No firm date yet.

p.s. Yes, thank you, a great day 🙂

  7. Mark Johnson says:

You’re right, it was still good e/w value Matt but your pick deserved the win! Just love the RAR – sadly it won’t be long before the bookies get hold of it and we’ll have to get on early to get the prices.

  8. Starburst says:

Thanks Matt thats great news. Would fit in nicely for me as i start work @ 7am (Mon-Fri), only get half an hour break a day so try and get a quick look at them on my phone @ work.

    • Matt Bisogno says:

Out of interest, Starburst, how do you find them on your phone? Easy enough to see / use?

      • dolphin68 says:

Hi Matt…picked four horses using the RARs: Johnny Cavagin Ponty 5.10 (finished 4th and really should have got a place), It’s All an Act (A winner), Different Beat NR and Limegrove (finished 5th)…great stuff. Find the RARs are quite good for finding well handicapped horses too!

Re your enquiry as to how the RARs render on mobiles. I have quite an old Samsung Galaxy S (bought back in 2010) that uses Android, and the cards render really well. The cards load just as quickly on my phone as they do on my PC.

Also the RARs load up bang on midnight…

Looking forward to new features on the RARs.

        Great stuff.

PS Hope you a good dad/son day at the zoo.

        • Matt Bisogno says:

Thanks Martin – good news on all fronts. Was a tricky day today, and the only one I was slightly disappointed with was Limegrove, who didn’t really get a position in her race but probably wasn’t good enough anyway. A couple of moderate rides in there too…

          More tomorrow…!

  9. Starburst says:

I’m using my company’s free wi-fi just typed in geegeez then bingo. Yeah Matt easy enough to use and to see. Got a decent enough phone Samsung Galaxy 3. Just dont get much time to have an in depth look at the race analysis due to my break time

    • Matt Bisogno says:

Thanks – that’s good info. We don’t really have the time/money to develop an app, so are reliant on the content being fairly legible on a phone in the same format as it is on t’internet. We think it’s pretty good in that regard, but it’s great to get independent input on that.
