The Tote appears to have struck a winner with the Scoop6 bet. Far from struggling to keep the bet going, the Tote is to extend it from just a Saturday afternoon offering to one on Friday nights as well.
Last summer, after the Tote was taken over by Betfred, Channel 4 had to stop its coverage of the bet, as to continue to provide details of how it was progressing during the afternoon would have provided Betfred with free publicity/advertising. That led some, myself included, to question the long-term viability of the Scoop6.
But the opportunity of huge winnings for a £2 stake continues to prove popular with punters, as have the regular Friday evening meetings at Dundalk and Wolverhampton. With these two meetings set to continue indefinitely, the Tote has decided to introduce a Friday Scoop6 featuring races from those two fixtures.
The bet will operate much the same as the Saturday one, with a guaranteed win fund of £25,000, and winners able to nominate a horse in a bonus race a week later with £75,000 available.
Announcing the extension ahead of its launch this Friday, operations director Brent Dolan said, “Friday evenings are popular in shops so we have taken one of our most successful bets and will now offer a chance to win on Friday night as well as a Saturday afternoon. With such a loyal following of all-weather fans and only a small risk of losing meetings to the elements, we are confident the Friday Scoop6 will prove to be a popular weekly bet.”
