Tuesday Punting Pointers

Trainer Jockey Combo Report

Trainer Jockey Combo Report

Seeing as The Shortlist, geegeez.co.uk's Feature of the Day on Tuesdays for registered site users, consists of just one horse, I thought I'd isolate a few pointers from the various reports, tabs, and race card inline items.

These are not tips as such, but may help to further understanding on how the races might play out.

Southwell

12.00

A lot of early speed (Pace Analysis), and Camanche Grey, drawn 1, could be the quickest to the turn. It's a long way home from there though.

Scoreline won his only race at Southwell, and is second top on speed ratings.

Moiety finished sixth in a race that is working out well (Hot Form report) at Lingfield on 14th November.

Luke Morris has placed on all five rides for Tony Carroll in the last fortnight (Belle Bayardo), according to TJ Combo report.

12.30

Mick Appleby and Ali Rawlinson both have green form indicators (race card), and Celestial Dancer is bred to be better on fibresand.

Celestial Dancer's last race (way back in May) has worked out pretty well (Then What, on race card).

1.00

Luke Morris has placed on all five rides for Tony Carroll in the last fortnight (Admirable Art), according to TJ Combo report.

Nothing else of note, impossible looking race!

1.30

The US-bred Kaahen wasn't beaten far on his only visit to Southwell, a track that suits horses of that origin.

Smart/Carter (Tinchy Ryder) and Appleby/ Rawlinson (Classical Diva) have been solid course combinations since 2009 (TJ Combo report).

2.00

Dore / Turner (Amenable) have had a winner and a placed runner for a decent profit in the last two weeks (TJ Combo)

Frankthetank has won four of his six races at the track (Horses 4 Courses report)

Sam Spade has won three of his seven races at the track. (Horses 4 Courses report) But he has never placed in nine attempts at Class 5.

Amenable has won three of his eleven races at the track. (Horses 4 Courses report)

2.30

Dore / Turner (Excelling Oscar) have had a winner and a placed runner for a decent profit in the last two weeks (TJ Combo)

Excelling Oscar has a good chance to lead (Pace Analysis), and has form of 21 at Southwell (Full Form Filter)

Excelling Oscar is second top rated on speed figures.

McCabe/Curtis have strong course combination figures (TJ Combo), and run Pyrocumulus.

3.00

Lots of speed on here (Pace Analysis) and, though trap one is sub-optimal, Danzoe ran well in a race working out well last time (Hot Form) and is unexposed at the track (form of 61, Full Form Filters).

Under Approval has won once and placed twice more from five runs at the track (H4C).

3.30

Master Dan likely to get the lead (Pace), though interesting that trainer James Given runs two in the race. Money for Bushel would be significant. There has been money for Bushel (!)

Bushel, a Street Cry gelding out of a US mare, is bred to go well here.

Uttoxeter

12.20

Symonds/de Giles go well here (TJ Combo), and run Katarrhini in this.

Abigail Lynch is clear on speed ratings, though a number have yet to record a figure.

King/Whelan (You've Been Mowed) have combined for three wins and a place from seven runners in the past fortnight.

King/Whelan both have the full set of four green form indicators (race cards)

12.50

Rattlin the sole entry on The Shortlist today, but this looks a hot race.

Jonjo 0 from 21 in the past fortnight, runs Cloudy Copper, a horse returning from 696 days off the track.

1.20

Wordy's Boy will like the ground (2 from 3 on soft, Instant Expert) and looks likely to lead (Pace). He's 0 from 3 off a layoff though.

Anabel Murphy is 3 from 6 in the past fortnight (race card inline form, form indicators), and she's booked Tony McCoy (all four green form indicators) for Dormouse.

1.50

Keel Haul and Key To The West both represent trainers in form in the past fortnight (form indicators), and both have good records in the grade (Instant Expert).

2.20

King/Whelan (Milansbar) have combined for three wins and a place from seven runners in the past fortnight.

King/Whelan both have the full set of four green form indicators (race cards)

Emral Silk and Storm Of Swords clear on speed figures, but there wouldn't be a strong chance of a fast run race (Pace).

2.50

A potentially very muddling pace here, with only one of the nine horses having run from the front in its previous four races, and even then only once.

Your first 30 days for just £1

Symonds/de Giles go well here (TJ Combo), and run Arden Denis in this.

Favourite Positive Vibes is 0 from 12 (only two placed efforts) on ground ranging from soft to heavy.

L Frank Baum is two from four in Class 5 (Instant Expert).

3.20

King/Whelan (Little Windmill) have combined for three wins and a place from seven runners in the past fortnight.

King/Whelan both have the full set of four green form indicators (race cards)

The Reveley's are in good form (two wins, two places, from five runners in the last two weeks, TJ Combo) and have Redkalani.

Vaughan/Johnson (Champagne Chaser) and Bailey/Maguire (Mor Brook) have fine long term track records when combining.

David Pipe has the full set of green form indicators, and saddles Flabello.

Given all of the above, it looks a race to watch, and one that could potentially work out well.

Fontwell

12.40

Pipe/Scu (Bidourey) and Nicholls/ST-D (Full Blast) both have very good recent form (TJ Combo, 14 Day)

Last Echo, rated 76 on the flat but 33/1 here, was two from four on soft on the level.

1.10

Ballyheigue Bay looks set for an easy lead (Pace), and is a course winner (Instant Expert). He also has consistent placed form under today's conditions.

George/Brennan (Moss On The Mill) have good long term track form when combining (TJ Combo, Course 2009+)

The Bowens (Letbeso) are in good recent form (TJ Combo, 14 Day)

1.40

Sherwood/Aspell (Blameitalonmyroots) have good long term track form when combining (TJ Combo, Course 2009+)

Tizzard/Powell (Morello Royale) are in good recent form, as are Pipe/Scu (Molo) (TJ Combo, 14 Day)

2.10

The form of Fruity O'Rooney's Cheltenham race is working out quite well (Hot Form)

Tizzard/Powell (Theatrical Star) are in good recent form (TJ Combo, 14 Day)

Sherwood/Aspell (Global Power) have good long term track form when combining (TJ Combo, Course 2009+)

Theatrical Star and Fruity O'Rooney may take each other on, so chance of a fast pace even in small field. Global Power a hold up type could benefit.

2.40

The Sneezer looks like getting an uncontested lead (Pace).

Mullins/Jones in good recent form, and team up with Kastani Beach (TJ Combo, 14 Day)

3.10

Mullins/Thornton (Head Spin) in good recent form when combining (TJ Combo, 14 Day)

3.40

The form of Jigsaw Financial's two runs prior to winning last time is working out well (Hot Form).

Jockey Nico de Boinville is in excellent recent form, and rides joint-top speed rated Asker.

There has been money for Back By Midnight, though I've no idea why. Exposed and moderate as far as I can tell!

**

And there we are - I hope that's of some interest. Including writing this up, and two brief (and welcome) interruptions from my young son, it took about an hour to collate all that info. With a clear run, I'd imagine it would have taken 40 minutes.

It also hopefully offers an insight into the main tools I use, which are as follows:

- Cards (everything on them!)
- Reports (especially TJ Combo, Hot Form, and The Shortlist)
- Pace Analysis tab
- Instant Expert tab
- Full Form Filters tab
- Odds tab

OK, so I basically use everything. That's part of the reason it's built that way 😉

  1. Chris Worrall says:

    Matt,
Back by Midnight is by Midnight Legend and there are a stack of stats relating to the sire to suggest the horse would go well here. 😀

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      OK, thanks Chris.

I’d need more than sire stats to back him though, given he’s had quite a few handicap starts under similar conditions. Still, that money for him is interesting, as are the lineage stats…

Be very interesting to see how he goes.

      Matt

    • Matt Bisogno says:

Back By Midnight ran a cracking race. Looks like he may have been trained in the past 35 days… 😉

Softer ground obviously to his liking too. Blown their cover now, though, and didn’t get the win they sought.

Trainer Miss E Baker goes into the notebook, though, and I’ll be taking a closer look at her stats.

  2. dave parsons says:

I agree chris he is the only 1 i have picked out from my jump sires list today. have got a few on the aw though.

  3. (John) Paul Ambrose says:

Great tutorial. Thanks. My PC’s playing up…my 7 vote should have been 10!

  4. Andrew says:

Many thanks for those pointers Matt; I had already placed my win double before reading this important information. For what it is worth I have doubled Storm of Swords (Uttoxeter) with
Headspin (Fontwell) who is one of the most tipped horses for the day.

    Best wishes

  5. Chris A says:

Great analysis Matt, ‘working from home’ today, so used the pointers for some small stakes patents. Landed Ballyheigue Bay @ 4s, Key to the West @ 11/2, Milansbar @ 12s, Arden Dennis 11/4…of course, all in separate bets!! Back to work now!!

    Cheers, Chris

    • Matt Bisogno says:

Cheers Chris. A weird day, really. Southwell, normally a fairly reliable port of call, was a washout.

Whereas Fontwell and especially Uttoxeter proved a lot more ‘readable’.

It’s always a tricky old game, setting things out publicly, especially across the entire set of races.

      • Chris Worrall says:

You had a far better day than I did, Mr. B!
        But there’s always tomorrow. 😀

  6. neil wimsett says:

    Good work Matt,
I nailed Top Totti@14/1 and Abigals Lynch@6/1 and i thought i was going to
have number three for the day, but Global Power just beaten sht hd , i thought
Top Trotti was a crazy price! glad i stood strong and wasn’t swayed by the price
as he was bottom of the pile.
    Regards
    Neil
