Cheltenham Festival 2018: antepost portfolio

Updated Cheltenham Ante Post Portfolio

Something to appeal to the voyeur in you today, and a video as well. Before you go running for cover at the thought of watching me in a voyeuristic video, it's not that sort of video!

No, it's a walkthrough of my Cheltenham Festival ante post portfolio spreadsheet. Feel free to switch channels now if that's not your thing. And/or, if you prefer, I've included the spreadsheet in full beneath the video. [Click the video button bottom right to view full screen.]

I've now previewed ten of the 28 races in my normal succinct (ahem) way, and you can click through to the ones of your choice from this link: Cheltenham Race Previews

Matt, thank you again for sharing this, a wonderful insight into your strategy and still plenty of prices out there for the casual fan to get stuck into some of your more fancied picks.
Really appreciate you putting this up, cannot wait for next week!

No problem, Dave – just a bit of fun. It’s such a great challenge and, these days, with so many concessions it does make punting a good bit easier. A few years ago, for instance, I’d have dropped £200 when Arctic Fire became a NR, but the NRNB safety net caught that one.

It’s looking reasonable against the current markets, but how it stands up against the other horses remains to be seen!!

    Hi Matt
As usual some interesting stuff. I have an odd mix of antepost bets with my biggest bet on Min at 4/1 plus a few fancy lucky 15s.
I went to the Leeds event last night and Denis O’Regan was very strong on Pat Kelly’s horse Mall Dini at 16/1 for the Pertemps so I have put a little on that. I also backed Yorkhill at11/2 with Skybet since it’s a money back offer and Noble Endeavour in NH Chase. I will try to consolidate my spreadsheets……..
    Good Luck

    Hi Matt,

I dont do ante post bets as it has not proved profitable to me in the past. I spoke to the person I know with the Mulholland stable. He is very keen on Shantou Village. I asked him about Southfield Royale and he said that he is going well at home and these two are the stables best chances.

If you had to have £1,000 on one horse at the festival, ans you could not pick Douvan, what would it be? I would go with Thistlecrack over Yanworth.

    Good luck with these bets.

      Hi Martin

I don’t have to have £1,000 on one horse, and it is very much not my style to do that. Rather, I like to play a portfolio of what I consider to be value prices. All that said, in the spirit of the question, it would most likely be Thistlecrack too, though I think Vroum Vroum Mag will take a lot of beating.

      Good luck,
