Videorama: Caller’s Nightmare and Amazing Derby Winner

We haven't had any Thursday fun for ages, so today sees a welcome return for that member of the Geegeez blog corps. I was doing some research... of sorts... on youtube the other night, and I stumbled on two brilliant bits of video footage, both from US racing.

Firstly, watch the "impossible result" in the 2009 Kentucky Derby, as Mine That Bird comes from a ten lengths last placing to win by about the same margin, from 20-odd rivals. This is one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen, and the fact that Mine That Bird was from a completely unheralded stable made it just so much more of a fairy tale run. In-cred-ible.

Next up, the punters at the Monmouth Park track last Sunday must have been praying for this to happen. But they surely can't have actually expected it to. Genius all round, and hats off to a super cool commentator in testing circumstances. Very amusing.

Finally, if you're interested, here's a little video of my train trip across Corsica, from Bastia to Ile Rousse on the other side of the island. It's a remarkable place, and blessed with stunning natural beauty.

To close a day of irreverant fun, a quick update on the Fantasy Football League. There are a whopping 175 teams entered and top scorer so far - with a blistering 166 points already, is The Beautiful Game managed by Jonathan Sutcliffe. Hot on his boots are Richard Halliday, John Cramb and Dave Hanley, who are three, six and eight points back respectively.

Me? I started fast, and am fading already (story of my life!). Having been second after the opening Saturday, I've now dropped down to 30th overall, not helped by a disastrous substitution where I dropped Carlos Tevez (11 points) in favour of Robin van Persie (didn't start, 4 points).

But enough of me, the guys are going great guns at the top. I know this because Jonathan's team is actually in 4,160th place out of the over two MILLION entries in the game!

And our league is currently placed 211th out of 196,304. In other words, we're collectively in the top 0.1%. Well done guys, keep it up!

Matt

Enjoyed your Corsica video. I know the island well, used to spend holidays down south near Porto Vecchio many moons ago. They don’t call it “Ile de Beaute” for nothing.

    Hi Matt

    Two great races.
In the first one it pays to never give up.The second race made me think about a horse I wanted to win for a friend. As it was a few years ago I think the horses name was something like 42 double dee!
Liked the Corsica video but not sure about the soundtrack!

      42 DD? Now that’s a sound track! 😉

Funnily enough, someone emailed me saying they loved the music and where could they get it. True!
