Day to day analysis:

TUESDAY 13/08:

Nottingham:

NOTTINGHAM DETAILS FOR 2013:

Number of races at Nottingham: 81

Favourite stats: 29 (35.8%--includes joint and co favourites)

Odds on ratio: 6/9 (66.7%)

Leading trainers at Nottingham in 2013:

4/7--Luca Cumani (1/2*-5/6*-5/4*-5/1)

4/11--Ralph Beckett (11/1-11/10*-8/11*-3/1)

4/18--Mark Johnston (6/1-11/8*-11/8*-11/8)

3/4--Mrs K. Burke (9/4-7/2-10/3)

3/10--Ed Dunlop (6/4*-5/1-3/1)

3/19--Roy Bowring (14/1-7/1-9/1)

72/81 winners (88.9%) were returned at odds of 12/1 or less

Trainers of most beaten favourites:

4--Ralph Beckett (3/1-9/4-2/1-8/11)

5.00:  Seven of the last eight winners have carried nine stones or more, whilst two of the last five favourites have won, albeit the successful jollies were flanked by 20/1-10/1-4 gold medallists.  Six of the twelve favourites have secured toteplacepot positions during the last dance.

5.35: Saeed Bin Suroor saddled the winner of this race in 2011 with his only runner in the contest to date (four renewals). Course and distance winner Brave Boy attempts to improve Saeed’s 10/22 ratio at Nottingham in the two-year-old sector in the last five years.

6.05: All nine toteplacepot positions have been secured by horses carrying a minimum weight of 9-3 to date.

6.35: Five of the six favourites have failed to reach the frame to date, including a 4/7 chance.

7.05: David Nicholls has saddled four of the last nine winners of this event and ‘Dandy’ is double handed here having declared both Addictive Dream and Inxile this time around.  All eleven three-year-olds have been beaten in this event during the last decade, statistics which stand against Dutch Masterpiece on this occasion.  That said, it would not be right for me to gloss over the fact that a junior raider did finish first one year before being disqualified via a (banned substance) technicality.

7.35: Three of the last five favourites have won albeit two 28/1 winners have emerged via just seven renewals to date.  It’s worth noting that all six market leaders which failed to win their respective events finished out of the frame.

Class 4 juvenile event for fillies over six furlongs scheduled for 1.35:  Richard Hannon has won four of the last nine renewals (14/1 winner in 2011) and with seven entries at the penultimate stage, the trainer was obviously intent on improving his ratio.  Eight favourites have won via the last eighteen renewals, whilst twelve market leaders secured toteplacepot positions in the process.

‘Washington Singer’ event scheduled for 2.05: John Gosden was winning the race for the third time in the last eight years two years ago and the trainer’s only entry earlier in the week was his unraced Sea The Stars colt Munjaz.  Mark Johnston has saddled two of the last seven winners and Somewhat was the only entry from Mark’s stable at the five day stage.  Six clear market leaders and two joint favourites have obliged during the last fifteen years.  Nine of the sixteen market leaders have secured toteplacepot positions in the process.

Group 3 event thirteen furlong event scheduled for 2.40:  Eight of the last thirteen favourites have won whilst four-year-olds have snared four of the last eight renewals of this ‘Geoffrey Freer’ contest.

Group 2 Hungerford Stakes due to be contests at 3.15:  Four-year-olds have won five of the last twelve renewals, though three-year-olds have won four of the last five contests.  Four clear marker leaders and one joint favourite have won in the last fifteen years.  Seven of the seventeen favourites have claimed toteplacepot positions in the process.

5-2 (7 ran-good)

4-2-9 (9 ran-good to firm)

Seven furlong all aged handicap due to be contested at 3.50: One clear and one joint favourite (both returned at 5/2) have won during the last decade, whilst three-year-olds have secured four of the last seven contests.  It is very unusual for Mark Johnston to only have one five day declaration (Flashlight) in this type of event, especially as Mark has secured two of the last six renewals.  What is of even more interest is the fact that Mark has not saddled a runner in the race since those (back to back) victories were achieved in 2007/08.  Flashlight held four entries during the week and wherever the Shamardal (three-year-old) colt runs from Thursday through Saturday should be noted.

Ten furlong 3YO handicap scheduled for 4.25: Seven renewals have slipped by since the last (100/30) favourite obliged though that said, the biggest priced winner during the period was a 6/1 chance before last year‘s 12/1 gold medallist emerged.  Five of the last six winners carried weights of 9-2 or more.

Lady riders finale scheduled for 4.55: Three-year-olds have won four of the six contests thus far.  Sarah Brotherton has secured three gold, one silver and a bronze medal via her last five rides in the race.

Wolverhampton:

Watch out for Richard Fahey’s older runners at Dunstall Park because although the trainer only boasts a strike rate of 14% in the sector, his level stake profit at the track with his horses aged four or more stands at forty seven points.  Indeed, 36/62 of his winners at Wolverhampton during the last five years (58%) have hailed from his senior ranks.  That said, Richard’s runners at the racecourse take some sifting, given that he had saddled 500 horses at the track during the study period!
