Weekly Stat Pack: 21st to 27th May

Weekly Stat Pack: 21st to 27th May

Once again (due to yet another Bank Holiday), not all the meetings correspond with last year though obviously, the meetings for which I offer relevant statistics are (thankfully) being staged.

Don’t forget that you can find updated stats for meetings which have additional days to the fixture the next morning via the Daily Stats Pack.  This week’s list is as follows:

Haydock: Three day meeting starting on Thursday

Goodwood: Three day meeting starting on Thursday

Newbury: Two day meeting starting on Friday

The stats for Friday’s Towcester meeting will be updated on Friday morning following the fixture earlier in the week.

The stats for Monday’s Cartmel meeting will be updated on Monday morning following the weekend fixture.

TUESDAY 21/05:

Brighton:

Although the exact meetings do not correspond from meetings last year (a few meetings were transferred in the spring to other courses), the first four fixtures at Brighton last year produced the following statistics.  14 favourites (including joint and co market leaders) won via thirty contests (46.7%), whilst Bill Turner (16/1 & 14/1), Mark Usher (3/1* & 11/4*) and John Bridger (4/1 * 7/4*) led the way in the training ranks with two winners apiece.

2.40: Three-year-olds have dominated this contest of late, as is invariably the case in these mixed vintage maiden events.  Five favourites have scored during the last decade during which time, all 10 winners scored at a top price of 6/1.  Seven market leaders have secured toteplacepot positions in the process.

3.10: Four-year-olds have won all three renewals in which the vintage was represented, gaining a clean 1-2-3 sweep twelve months ago.  Gung Ho Jack is the only four-year-old in the line up this time around whereby this self-confessed ‘anorak’ is guaranteed to back the Moss Vale gelding on Tuesday.

3.40: Four-year-old Authoritarian racked up eight consecutive ‘in the three’ efforts between July and October last year, winning three times in the process.  Trainer Richard Hannon has scored with five of the ‘older horses’ he has saddled here at Brighton during the last five years and Keiran O’Neill’s mount is expected to improve upon Richard’s impressive record.

Class 4 mixed vintage one mile handicap due to be contested at 2.10: Five-year-olds have won three of the last four renewals whilst secured five of the twelve available toteplacepot positions.  Last year’s winner Cono Zur was Ruth Carr’s only entry at the penultimate stage, Ruth having landed two of the last four contests.  Just one (9/4) favourite has prevailed during the last decade, with the other nine market leaders all finishing out of the frame.

Class 3YO handicap scheduled for 2.40: Nine of the eleven toteplacepot positions to date were secured by horses carrying weights of 8-11 of more, stats which includes all four (7/1-9/2-9/2-2/1) winners.

One mile ‘Silver Bowl’ event scheduled for 3.15: Four favourites have won since the turn of the Millennium with the last twelve winners having scored at 15/2 or less, which is a remarkable stat given the competitive nature of this contest.

Group 2 Temple Stakes over five favourites scheduled for 3.50: Five of the last eleven renewals have been secured by favourites.  Four and five-year-olds have (equally) shared the last four contests whilst securing eight of the twelve available toteplacepot positions between them during the period.

Class 4 six furlong handicap scheduled for 4.20: All six winners have carried weights of 9-1 or more, whilst four favourites have obliged alongside two 20/1 winners.
