Win Tickets to the Cheltenham Festival 2011

Sun Cheltenham Offer

Sun Special Cheltenham Offer

The 'soaraway' Sun are sponsoring one of the main stands at the Cheltenham Festival this year, dear reader, and Geegeez has teamed up with The Sun and offered me two tickets for each day of the Festival (next Tuesday 16th to next Friday 19th March).

As I'm already going on the Wednesday and have work commitments for you lovely people on the other three days, I'm offering YOU the chance to go to Chelters with a mate / spouse / random stranger one of the days next week.

Now then, first the wanton promotion of the Sun (always has been an estimable newspaper packed full of insighful editorial and wonderful images ;))

In celebration of The Sun’s sponsorship of the Best Mate’s enclosure at Cheltenham Festival, they’re giving away FREE daily bets of £1 in the paper and £5 online in association with Ladbrokes all of next week!  For your FREE bets, pick up their 12-page racing pull-out ‘Favourite,’ crammed full of everything you need to know about the Festival 2011.

We are also pleased to announce ‘Fantasy Cheltenham’ has launched, a FREE-to-play tipster game where you can win great prizes everyday:

Your first 30 days for just £1

So there you go, if you grab a copy of the Sun next week, there will be a racing pullout in there. Pop along to Laddies on your high street for a free bet. Fair enough. If you go online and register with Laddies there, you'll bag a fiver freebie wager. Also fair enough.

And, if you fancy having a crack at the Fantasy Cheltenham stable thingie, the link is above.

Assuming I've done enough of a plug to please the beaks at the red top's HQ, I'll have two tickets for each of the four days of the festival. To be in with a chance of winning, send an email with your name and full postal address to whichever of the below email addresses corresponds to the day you wish to attend Cheltenham:

You can enter for as many days as you like, and entries must be received by this Thursday (10th) at 4pm, to give me the chance to mail the tickets out to you.

The tickets are, unsurprisingly, for use in the Sun-sponsored Best Mate Stand, and you'll need to arrange your own transport etc. That's a saving of £50 on the day. In fact, that stand has sold out for Gold Cup day, so this is an excellent opportunity to watch what may be Denman, Imperial Commander and Kauto Star's respective swansongs.

Anyway, if you can get there and want to go, send an email to the respective mailbox and you'll be in with a chance.

My decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into, etc.

Winners announced on the blog on Friday.

Good luck!

    Dear Matt

I have been wondering for some time now just what it is about the geegeez I had began to dislike and distrust to a certain extent and then thankfully this post. The Sun newspaper; there is no possiblle way that I can patronise anything that has an allegience to or an affiliation with the Murdoch group. I know, from experience, after all I have been following your posts from the very outset of your buisiness venture that your interest in marketing and product development and sales is of paramount interest and importance to you. However, whilst there is nothing wrong, intrinsically with that in itself our collaborations in life go some way in describing ourselves too. You are an inteligent man, you know who and the Murdoch Group is and what they represent and as such I won’t patronise you in highlighting some of the things about them that might be described as missgivings.

Been an interesting few years reading and watching your development, I am extremeley grateful for some of the insights you’ve published and some of the ideas you’ve intorduced. And introducing Gavin to the internet and the continued good work that he does. You can’t help but trust the mans integrity as a gambler, and one of experience and commitment and a genuine love of the game.

Without regret or dissapointment, I wish you well in your flagrant and refreashingly honest approach to accumalative wealth without discernement. The Sun and Murdoch Group will be proud of you.

Thanks Larry for being along for the ride from, as you say, pretty much day one. Regarding the Sun, there was me thinking I was offering my readers something for nothing by pimping myself to the redtop for one day, and I lose a loyal subscriber.

Of course, that’s churlish in the extreme, and I completely understand that the fact I make money from my site and call it a business is not to everyone’s tastes. The reality is that without the commercial side, the blog doesn’t exist. I’ve never once asked for a cent from people for publishing this site, and never will. In that regards, I’m more akin to the Evening Standard of today, or the morning freesheets like Metro, which pay for their existence with joint ventures and adverts etc.

I see no shame in that, and love the fact that probably 80% of Geegeez readers have never bought a thing from me. If they’re not interested in what’s being offered, why should they? I still love that they come here to be entertained. Moreover, and this is pure self-indulgence, there is a handful of readers who do not even LIKE horse racing or betting. They just read because on occasion it’s a reasonably entertaining five minutes distraction from whatever else fills their minds and their days.

That is hugely gratifying. So long then, Larry, and if being a man of principles means denying the existence of others by their most tenuous of associations, then I am happy to be at the sharp end of your judgment. Because truly you have shown a level of piety to which I can never aspire with your statement. (Actually, being frank for a second, it’s pathetic).

      Hi Chas et al,

If clicking the link doesn’t work for you, please open your choice of email program/address and send an email to the appropriate day, with your name and postal address.

Great response to Larry – nothing to add that you haven’t already said – well done you.

I’m already going to Cheltenham on Wednesday (might see you but I’ll only be in Tatts!) and can’t make Tuesday, so have unashamedly submitted entries for Thursday and Friday. Don’t mind if your tickets go to someone who otherwise isn’t going at all, but if it’s a purely random draw then thought I may as well give it a go.

Great website – great fun (some good advice as well) – you never fail to brighten up my day

    Cheers Matt

      Matt Bisogno says:

Thanks Colin – that’s very kind of you to say.

It is a random draw, though I’ll have to be sure and avoid your name now to dodge my reputation being further called into question! 😉

p.s. only joking, I will be asking Mrs Matt to do the drawing for each day.

    Hi Matt,
Isn’t it strange that over the past month, i have been receiving e-mails from other so called horse racing bloganista’s ( if theres such a word) then bingo, they suddenly have the next must have Cheltenham stuff to sell. Then i suppose i won’t be hearing from them for another 11 months.
I’m sure your readers have been having the same experiences.
I have been following your blogs from day 1 since the nagnagnag days and have found both yourself and Gavin to be some of the good guys, giving advice and angles to educate your readers.Your there pretty much all year round and deserve every success as you put the graft in through out the year.
So what, if you collaborate with The Sun,we all have to earn a living, and if that helps to keep this great blog rolling along, then i’m sure your readers wouldn’t mind in the slightest.
Wishing you all the best, hope you have a great day out at Chelters, and keep up the good work.

Thanks Sim – the funny thing is I actually don’t gain anything from this promotion, except what I thought might be some goodwill!

I’m not exactly hard done by, so I’ll push on regardless. Thanks for your vote of confidence.

    Hi Matt
I would love to go to Cheltenham (any day) and i’ve already entered the competition every day the festival’s on. As for Larry and the Sun….i can’t believe how anybody can be so churlish towards what is in effect the most read paper in the UK, and is therefore read by millions of us Brits. I take what he said as a personal insult to all of us. I read the Mail, the Sun, and a couple of other racing papers during the week, every week. He sounds like a Guardian reader, who is so far up his own backside that he can’t see that. ITS A PAPER!!! It employs tens of thousands of people, and gives businesses the advantage of adverising to the masses, again giving work to many employees of the firms that benefit from that advertising. Larry should learn to accept these facts and get a life. I too have been with you for a very long time, and appreciate your efforts, more power to you and Gavin.

Wow that told him. Can’t belive some people!
Just wanted to say how appreciative I and many others are of your work here on geegeez.
This site wouldn’t exist if you didn’t make a bob or two from it, so good luck to you.
Thanks for all your hard work and the fantastic thoughts that you provide for free.
    Brilliant stuff
    Ps Daily mail man myself

      Matt Bisogno says:

Thanks Mike, Dunc and all. No need to say any more, as it is compliment enough that you keep coming back to read my blustering guff from day to day, week to week, month to month, and yes, year to year. You’re a hardy old lot! 😉

    Hi Matt:
Having waited a day to simmer down from the rant about The Sun can I echo the comment that it is only a paper. We all know who Murdoch is and we make a choice over whether we buy it or not. Perhaps if he hates it so much he would get more delight in taking something from them.
Sometimes you wonder if people have not heard the expression life is too short…..
I have previously expressed my views on your excellent pieces and the fact that you have got in to bed with ‘The Sun’ will not alter these- mind if it was Jordan I might have second thoughts……

The Sun (always has been an estimable newspaper packed full of insighful editorial and wonderful images).

Not on the Wednesday after the Hillsborough disaster it wasn’t. It was a total disgrace. And it took years before they even apologised. I will not buying it for the racing supplement or the free bets or for any reason wahtsoever. Ever.

No problem Donal, and clearly my extremely laboured irony was lost on you.
