Sent out as just a 25/1 chance, Khajaaly, owned by Geegeez.co.uk, has opened his scorecard with a victory in the Racing Start Handicap (Div 2) at Wolverhampton on Friday.
Held up in the rear early in the proceedings, jockey Jimmy Quinn made good headway on the outside two furlongs out, progressing to second over one furlong out.
Throwing down the challenge to race leader Suzhou, the Julia Feilden trained charge moved to the front inside the final furlong, to cross the line half a length the better of the runner up, with race favourite Nicholas Pocock in third place a further two lengths behind.
Matt Bisogno, representing the winning syndicate, Geegeez.co.uk commented, “Julia [Feilden, the trainer] had mentioned that he’d improved markedly for his break, and when I saw him swinging on the bridle while all the others were flat out, I knew this would be our day.
“He’s done it very cosily in the end, and could win again with luck. For now though, the Geegeez syndicate members have enjoyed a lovely touch at 25 and 33/1, and there will be much celebrating this evening!â€
