World Hurdle Tipping Competition: Day Two

Who will replace Big Buck's as World Hurdle winner?

Who will usurp Big Buck's as World Hurdle winner?

Well, that was fun. 🙂

220 of you entered the tipping fray yesterday, with a pair of tickets for Ladbrokes World Hurdle day at Cheltenham up for grabs.

And only two players managed to find both winners, despite them only being sent off at odds of 5/1 (Vinetta) and 3/1 (after R4 deduction, Patriotic).

What does that mean? Well, if you're Mark or Paul, congratulations, you have the honour of leading the pack into day two.

But, with a lead of just three points over 35 others who correctly nominated Vinetta, there is still all to play for.

In fact, if like me you drew a blank yesterday (actually, I had one non-runner and a 33/1 loser!), you're only nine or ten points off first place. One tidy winner during the rest of the week can easily make up that deficit, so don't lose heart just yet!

And, more importantly, even if you didn't get to enter yesterday, you can still enter today, although naturally you'll be playing catch up and will start from -2, to make it fair to all. That would mean you'd be ten points back on the leaders so, as I say, it's certainly not insurmountable.

Anyway, to today's races, which are...

3.05 Lingfield

3.15 Southwell

(Click the links to be taken to the new Geegeez racecards, now with properly displaying silks! Still some work to be done on the cards, but they're getting there).

As per yesterday, please leave a comment below with race time, horse name and, if you want, a bit of fluff on why you like it. Again, as per yesterday, I've left an example of what I mean.

Good luck!

3.05 – Salut Honore, loves deep ground, normally a good jumper and a fair price
3.15 – Nazreef, 4/4 here, class no problem and ready for the Southwell nap hand.

3.05 Ling. : Ballinhassig, horse in good form & likes the ground. Also named after a great village in Cork with wonderful “black stuff” in the local pub !
3.15 S’well : Boring ! – also going with Nazreef (following the master).

3.05 – BALLINHASSIG last time out won easily in heavy ground from out of the handicap so runs today off 8lb lower mark. Should win if in the same form.
3.15 – DOCOFTHEBAY sticking with Luke Morris and an old favourite of mine

    Josh W says:

3.05 – Abbey Dore – ability to win, big doubt about fitness but that is built into odds.
3.15 – Gouray Girl – cannot decide from the contenders, so will take a punt, elisons 25% 4yo+ strike rate here, plus hood, gives me something to cling too.- although not hopeful. did consider Docofthebay – i know what will happen now!

    good luck

3.05 LINGFIELD, MISS FLEUR. Has won over CD and could go well from competitive weight, although not proven on ground.
3.15 SOUTHWELL, NAZREEF. Comes out well on our ratings, 100% strike rate on the Southwell surface & well handicapped.

3.05: Abbey Dore. Been off the track for a while, but has great past form, used to stay all day (wins at 3m2f and 3m 2.5f, plus a 2nd at 3m4f) and has a good record on soft/heavy ground.

3.15: KIckingthelilly. Form line of 211171 over 7f on A/W (=32pts!), 1/1 here (CD too)

Somerby 9/2 and Docofthebay 7/1 are the pair of winners from this afternoon’s two races.

Well done to THREE David’s: Wagstaff, Walker and topmandj, and also to Steve Morris.

That quartet claim bragging rights this afternoon, with a tidy return of 11.5 units on the day.

I’ll do the overall tallying later on and report back for the morning.

    Excellent stuff!

Yes, I think that’s a very good idea. I’ll carry on as we are this week, but for future competitions (and there will be plenty), I’ll definitely flag the races the night before.
