Your New Geegeez: Where Things Now Live…

Welcome to new geegeez...

Welcome to new geegeez...

You will have noticed a change to the look of geegeez since you last dropped by, and you may also be wondering where things have moved to since that last visit. Nobody likes change - humans are fundamentally programmed to resist it - so this post is designed to outline where things now live if that place is different from before.

Firstly, where do you login now? You'll have noticed the login box in the right sidebar has been removed. In fact, the whole sidebar has been removed. It wasn't really serving any purpose, so we decided to use that space better.

Login can now be found in the main menu, here:

newlogin

The two top menus have been significantly revamped, with the main blue menu now covering the day's racing: cards, results, reports and the tracker; as well as the login box and some buttons to allow you to connect with our increasingly active social media accounts.

newmainmenu

You can see that, once you're logged in, the 'Login' link becomes a 'My Geegeez' link, allowing you to access all of your personal settings directly from that link. You can also log out by selecting 'My Geegeez' > 'Logout'.

Above the blue main menu is a white sub-menu, which has more of your favourite links, as follows:

newtopmenu

From here you can join Gold, as well as link directly to the latest horse racing tips, blog content, Gold forum, Tipping League, and system and service trials and reviews.

The main body of the page is comprised of several elements, as follows:

- Graphical slider for not logged in / free users, reminding of the value of a Gold subscription
- Latest blog posts
- Quick links to all of today's racing, and the latest fast results
- Latest horse racing tips, and a selection of yesterday's winners highlighted by Gold content

Underneath that, there is a footer with more links to things you may use on a less frequent basis, such as information on racecourses, the fixture list, and contact/about/privacy policy information for the site.

**

We do expect there to be a few little 'snags' as we transition from the old look to the new, but we're very hopeful we've already addressed the worst of those. If you spot anything you're not sure about, please leave a comment below, or use the contact form - and thanks for helping us 'trap' any gremlins!

Again, I really hope you'll find the new site more usable, and indeed useful.

Best Regards,

Matt

    awesome, love the new design and layout, so much easier to navigate. well done.
    cheers george

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      Thanks George – hopefully it will prove more navigable: that was definitely a key component of the switch.

      Best,
      Matt

    Are there still teething problems because I am unable to view any of the race cards

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      All fine, Gerry. You might need to refresh once or twice to get everything up straight, but working fine here on desktop and mobile.

    brilliant new site matt looks the buisness now and hopefully with a new site some new winners to celebrate

  4. Everyone calls me Paul says:

    Cheers Matt. Seems like a great improvement, and looks the business as well. One minor issue I noticed…there’s no timeline on the forum to tell when the last post was made (I started a new thread in “Today’s Racing” to ensure it didn’t update). So, for instance, we’d be unaware that you’d posted in “Important Announcements” unless we clicked on it to check. I did say minor…just noting it for your Upgrade Issues Folder!

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      Hi Paul

      I can’t actually find a setting to show a date. So what I’ve done is add a sub-menu item called ‘Most recent forum posts’. Click that to display threads in post recency order.

      A bit hacky but should do the trick, I hope.

    Looks fantastic, easy to navigate and, as always, simply the best!!!

  6. Colin Barker says:

    in the new design, when I am looking at the report screen the right hand edge of the page is off-screen thus splitting the last column in two and there is no slider to move the page along to view it – should it be like this ?

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      Hi Colin
      What browser are you using? Can you reduce the font size? We are aware of this issue but don’t have a ready solution yet, I’m afraid.

      Using Ctrl and the – key together will reduce the font size in most browsers. Of course, if your browser isn’t full screen that’s another workaround: make it full screen. We know this is sub optimal and are trying to find a better solution.

      Matt

        • Matt Bisogno says:

          Hi Colin

          OK, good news that the workaround works. We’ll hopefully have a proper fix for this soon. Thanks for flagging it.

    Hi Matt, site looks great, thanks for all the work you put in. I have a couple of queries, which tie in with each other. Hope I’m ok posting them here. It’s regarding the filters to use on the reports. In the gold user manual page 44 you suggest some settings for value backers. However, when you occasionally tweet winners from the reports, the filters on the screenshot are different from these. Now I know these settings are up to the individual user, but I was wondering if there were a set of optimum filters that you personally use yourself? Tying in with this, I see you have a new section showing “Gold top ten winners from yesterday”. I like it, but can I ask which settings on the reports were used to obtain these results? And for the speed winners, was it the highest numerical figures of the day or the biggest gap between the top and second top rated? Thanks very much.

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      Hi Chud777

      Good questions all.

      Let’s start with the speed ratings. They are simply top two in each race when displayed in the ‘Top 10 Winners’ block.

      For the other reports, the following settings have been used… and I’m first to admit that they’re somewhat arbitrary (i.e. please don’t assume that backing all runners under these conditions will make money!)

      /*
      Speed Ratings
      Top rated or 2nd top rated on speed (incl. joint top or second)
      */

      /*
      The Shortlist
      Win tab only
      */

      /*
      Horses For Courses
      Runs 10 to Any, Win % 25 to Any, Win PL 0 to Any (All races, not ‘hcap only’)
      */

      /*
      Head to Head
      Runs 5 to Any, Wins 5 to Any
      */

      /*
      Trainer – Trainer/Jockey – Jockey Stats Reports
      Runs 10 to Any, Win % 25 to Any, Place % 33 to Any, Win PL 0 to Any (All races, not ‘hcap only’)
      NB This is for all four report types: 1, 2, 3, 4
      */

      /*
      Trainer Handicap 1st Run [Code]
      Runs 5 to Any, Win % 20 to Any, Win PL 0 to Any
      NB This is for all four report types: 1, 2, 3, 4
      */

      /*
      Trainer 2yo 1st Run
      Runs 5 to Any, Win % 20 to Any, Win PL 0 to Any
      NB This is for all four report types: 1, 2, 3, 4
      */

      /*
      Trainer Change
      Runs 5 to Any, Win % 20 to Any, Win PL 0 to Any
      NB This is for all four report types: 1, 2, 3, 4
      */

      As you say, there is a deeply individual element to the report settings. My starting settings are outlined in the manual, but I do vary them depending on how many results are returned. I also don’t back the output from my settings blindly but, rather, use it as a starting point for a deeper dig. I’m always interested to find at least one other material element about a runner’s prospects.

      For instance, if I see a trainer with a solid Handicap 1st Time record, I’ll be looking for a material change in the race conditions which could help bring about improvement from the horse; and/or a good period of time off the track (to get fit, perhaps).

      As always, the reports and other elements are great starting points, and can be highly effective in themselves. But when used in collaboration they are explosive.

      Hope that adds some colour on the subject, and thanks for the great questions.

        Thanks for the reply Matt, plenty to work with there. Just a quick niggle now – my cards aren’t displaying odds anymore? I changed my preferences to decimal and they appeared, but when I went back to fractional (which I prefer), they won’t show…

        • Matt Bisogno says:

          Yep, we’re aware of odds issue – see other comment here. It’s nothing to do with the upgrade, but is a separate problem we need to look into. Very frustrating, but that’s next on our list so should be sorted soon.

    HI Matt, site looks nice and clean. FYI, however, in My GeeGeez, although the days race-cards are displayed in a block, clicking on a race (eg 14.00 Beverley) the link gets underlined and turns red but the race pages wont open at all. I did manage to open the race pages from the block on the home page, and a lot of prices not showing still. Using Chrome and Win 7.

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      Hi Kev

      I don’t quite understand your issue. You say ‘in My Geegeez, clicking on a race’, but it’s not possible to click on a race from that page. Did you mean the home page, or the race cards page?

      Odds display is a separate issue, outside of the theme upgrade. We’re on the verge of removing altogether pending a solution that actually works. Very frustrated with that particular element… 🙁

      Matt

    Another step forward Matt, good stuff, easier navigation thanks very much, also just noticed “Yesterday top ten gold winners” in home page area, nice easy feedback area from the previous days angles, keep up the good work : – )

    Hi Since you have changed your website I am not able to stake amount in STAKE BOX . On either INTERNET EXPLORER, FIREFOX or GOOGLE CHROME is it me or you with this problem Robert

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      Hi Rob and Brian,

      Are you using the tip box on the actual race card or from the Tip League icon in the menu?

      I’m able to see the text in both boxes, using Chrome, so keen to try to replicate your issue.

      Please let me know.

      Thanks,
      Matt

    Looks good but I have a small issue.The Tip League doesn’t show any numbers when I try to enter them.Tried a few times & now when I do it tells me I’ve used up my points for the day.So I assume I have entered the tips but they were invisible to me? No way to tell though as when I go to the “You” tab my entries for today aren’t there.So no idea whether I’ve managed to get them recorded or not.Bit confusing.

    EDIT: It does record the tips now but the numbers are still invisible when I type them in.

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      OK, thanks Brian. Good information – we’ll look into this.

      Workarounds:
      1. Use tip league as normal, and check on the ‘You’ tab that tips have been placed.
      2. Make selections directly from the racecard ‘TIP’ icon

      We’ll try to get this fixed over the next couple of days.

    Lovely and clean, access is much better all around. Smashing update, thanks Matt.

    • Matt Bisogno says:

      Hi Alex

      That’s because they’re in disguise! I renamed them Instant Expert about a year ago. They’re found on the race card tab to the right of Full Form Filter (you need to be logged in and a Gold subscriber to view them).

      Sorry for the confusion.

      Best Regards,
      Matt
