Introduction

The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint is a relatively new addition to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The race was officially added to the Breeders’ Cup lineup in 2018. Prior to its formal inclusion, a similar race for two-year-olds was part of the 2017 undercard during Breeders’ Cup weekend but didn’t carry official Breeders’ Cup status.

The Juvenile Turf Sprint is open to two-year-olds only. The race distance is either five or five and a half furlongs on turf, depending on the layout of the host track.

Wesley Ward won the race three times in succession between 2019 and 2021, and the first four winners all led from gate to wire.

In 2025 at Del Mar, the race will again be run at a flat five furlong distance.
