2025 Peterborough Chase Trends

Staged at Huntingdon racecourse over 2m 4Β½f the Peterborough Chase is a Grade Two chase run in December each year. The contest often attracts some decent names from the jumping world, with horses like Edredon Bleu, Best Mate, Racing Demon and Monet’s Garden all recent previous winners of the valuable race.

The event has also been a fair guide for that season’s Ryanair Chase, run at the Cheltenham Festival, with seven winners going onto finish 7th or better in that contest – including the 2019 winner – Josses Hill, who ended up 5th in the Ryanair Chase.

Trainer Henrietta Knight, who is now retired, has dominated the race in recent times with a staggering 8 victories since 1998, while Nicky Henderson landed the spoils four times back in the nineties, and more recently in 2013 with Riverside Theatre, in 2016 with Josses Hill and in 2017 & 2019 with Top Notch.

However, Henderson added to those successes in 2020 too and equalled Knight’s haul of 8 Peterborough Chase wins, when the 6 year-old, Mister Fisher won the prize, with the race re-routed to Cheltenham.

In 2021, the Kim Bailey runner First Flow won the Peterborough Chase, while Paul Nicholls took the 2022 won the race with Pic D’Orhy. The 2023 race was called off.

While last year in 2024, this season's Charlie Hall Chase winner Djelo took the honours and is back in 2024.

Staged at Newbury racecourse the Long Distance hurdle is often a fair guide ahead of the Stayers' Hurdle, run at the Cheltenham Festival later that season.

2025 Fighting Fifth Hurdle Trends

Sponsored by leading bookmaker BetMGM the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth hurdle is staged at Newcastle racecourse.

Having first been run in 1969 the contest is often seen as an early-season trial for the Champion Hurdle, with the Nicky Henderson-trained Punjabi (2008) and Buveur D'Air (2018)Β the last horses to win both races in the same season.

The 2017 and 2018 Champion Hurdle winner – Buveur d’Air – landed this race in 2017 before going onto Cheltenham glory again in March 2018, while he also took the prize in 2018 and was second in 2019.

In 2022 we saw the exciting Constitution Hill romp to victory by 12 lengths - beating the two-time past winner Epatante, before going onto win the Champion Hurdle later that season.

While last season in 2024 the Nicky Henderson-trained Sir Gino landed the spoils with ease.

2025 Betfair Chase Trends

Staged at Haydock Park racecourse the Betfair Chase (Registered as the Lancashire Chase) is a Grade One race and is run over a slightly longer trip (3m1f). The contest is a fairly new one, being first run in 2005 and takes place in November each season.

Trainer Paul Nicholls has made the race his own, winning the decent prize 6 times in the last 17 years, including four times with Kauto Star, while the popular grey Bristol De Mai has landed the pot three times in the last 8 years and giving his trainer – Nigel Twiston-Davies – his fourth success in the contest. While the Tizzard yard is another to have on your radar - they’ve won four of the last 12.

In 2022 we saw the Dan Skelton-trained Protektorat win the race in easy fashion to give the Dan Skelton yard their first win in the race and for the last two years the Venetia Williams-trianed Royale Pagaille has won for popular owner Rich Ricci.

2025 Greatwood Hurdle Trends

The Greatwood Hurdle is stage each year in November at the Cheltenham Open Meeting and is being sponsored by leading bookmaker Unibet.

Run over 2m Β½ f on the Old Course the contest gives National Hunt racing fans some early season pointers ahead of the Champion Hurdle, run at Cheltenham at the Festival in March – Rooster Booster (2002) was the last horse to win this race and go onto land that same season’s Champion Hurdle.

Since 1988 the race has been won four times by the Pipe stable, three times by Philip Hobbs and three times, including in 2015, by ex-champion trainer Paul Nicholls.

In 2023 we saw the Nicky Henderson-trained Iberico Lord win the race for top owner JP McManus.

2025 Paddy Power Gold Cup Trends

Run over 2m 4 Β½ furlongs the Paddy Power Gold Cup is the feature contest at the three-day Cheltenham Open Meeting, held each year in the middle of November each year.

The β€˜Pond House’ Pipe stable are the leading yard with nine wins in the race, with Celestial Gold, Our Vic and Great Endeavour, who won the contest in 2011, their most-recent winners.
