2025 Savills Chase Trends

Staged at Leopardstown racecourse, Ireland, the Grade One Savills Chase (formerly the Lexus Chase) is run over a distance of 3m and is often seen as a decent guide ahead of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, run later that season.

Some great names in recent years to land both races are Denman (2007/08) and Best Mate (2003/04), while considering the contest is staged in Ireland, we’ve actually seen eight UK-based horses come over and win the prize in the last 24 years.

While for the last two seasons (2023 and 2024) we've seen the Willie Mullins-trained Galopin Des Champs romp away with the prize.

Here at GeeGeez, we take a look back at recent winners and gives you the key trends ahead of the 2025 renewal - Sunday 28th December 2025.

Boxing Day TV Trends: Friday 26th Dec (Kempton, Aintree & Wetherby)

A huge day on Boxing Day (Friday, Dec 26th 2025), but the festive highlight, as racing resumes after a three-day break, is the King George VI Meeting at Kempton Park.

The King George VI Chase is the feature race of the day as punters will look to get their Christmas expenses paid for – a race in recent years we’ve seen horse racing greats like Kauto Star, Long Run, Best Mate, Kicking King, One Man and, more recently, Thistlecrack, Might Bite, landing the prize.

Plus, at Wetherby the ITV cameras are also heading there to take in the Grade 3 Rowland Meyrick Chase, and at Aintree the Formby Novices Hurdle - which has produced three Supreme Novices' Hurdle winners since 2006.

Here at GeeGeez, we take a look at each race on the Kempton card and highlight the main trends, plus the Rowland Meyrick Chase (Wetherby) and Formby Novices' Hurdle – hopefully this will help you narrow down the fields and point you in the direction of a few festive winners.

2025 December Gold Cup Betting Trends

The December Gold Cup is run over 2m5f at Cheltenham’s December Meeting each season around the middle of the month.

In recent years, trainer Paul Nicholls’ has won the prize five times, the most recent being Frodon in 2018. Nicky Henderson is another trainer to look out for - having won the race three times since 2002 – while in 2020, the race was won by the Michael Winters-trained Chatham Street Lad, who was only the third Irish-trained winner of the race in last 23 runnings.

It's also interesting that 26 of the last 27 winners were aged 8 or younger.

It’s generally, been a good contest for the bookmakers with just one winning favourite in the last 22 runnings (last winning market leader was in 2009), but that’s not to say those at the head of the market don’t do well as 14 of the last 22 winners returned 9/1 or shorter in the betting – while three of the last 11 December Gold Cup winners returned 7/1.

Here at GEEGEEZ we take a look back at recent winners and give you all the trends that matter ahead of the 2025 renewal - Saturday 13th December.

The contest often attracts some decent names from the jumping world, with horses like Edredon Bleu, Best Mate, Racing Demon and Monet’s Garden all recent previous winners of the valuable race.

Staged at Newbury racecourse the Long Distance hurdle is often a fair guide ahead of the Stayers' Hurdle, run at the Cheltenham Festival later that season.

Run over 3m the race often attracts the best staying hurdlers around – The last horse to win both the Lond Distance and Stayers' Hurdle in the same season was Thistlecrack in 2016/17.

12 months ago, the race was won by Strong Leader who is back for more in 2025.

We take a look back at past runnings of the Long Distance hurdle and also give you the main trends to apply to the race – use these stats to find the best recent winning profiles of winners.
